About Tanit and Tarikhna Hna

Tanit is an intersectional feminist and decolonial research center, founded in 2019, that produces and archives queer and feminist knowledge from Morocco and its diaspora through research and art.

Tarikhna Hna, “Our History Is Here,” is a community-led archive of queer and feminist history and lived experience in Morocco and its diaspora. The archive lives online at archivehna.com and appears periodically in public exhibitions.

About the Fellowship

This year, Tanit will select one duo, a researcher and an artist who apply together as a pre-formed team. The fellowship begins in January 2027 with onboarding and two trainings (digital and field security; feminist research methodology and ethics) and runs a maximum of six months from February to July 2027, with editorial support from Tanit throughout.

The researcher and the artist work together from the very beginning, designing the project, doing the fieldwork, and shaping both outputs jointly; the artistic work is grounded in every step of the research.

What we expect:

  • A contribution to the archive: the research material gathered (interviews, oral histories, sounds, photographs, texts), organized so it can contribute to archivehna.com with everyone’s consent.
  • An artistic work: created alongside the research and presented in a public exhibition later in 2027.

Funding

Each fellow receives a fee of €1,500 for their work (€3,000 for the duo). Two separate budgets cover the project itself: €1,000 for fieldwork (such as travel and recording) and €3,000 for producing the exhibition.

Who Should Apply

Tarikhna Hna prioritizes duos from the communities it documents: queer, feminist, and gender-nonconforming people connected to Morocco, in the country or in the diaspora, especially those without previous institutional support. Only duos may apply:

  • Research member: interest or experience in research, documentation, oral history, or archival work. No academic degree is required.
  • Artist member: an existing practice in a relevant medium (visual art, photography, sound, performance, or another form suited to the theme) and a body of prior work.
  • Both members: working proficiency in Darija, Tamazight, Arabic, French, or English, and availability from January-July 2027.

Choose Your Theme

The six themes below are broad starting points, not set topics. Choose one, then define your own specific subject within it and the angle you want to take.

  • Sound, music, and queer nightlife memory: informal social spaces built around music, parties, and DJ networks, approached as a sonic and oral archive.
  • Queer and feminist humor as strategy: jokes, irony, drag, and wordplay in Darija as tools of survival and resistance.
  • Beyond the big cities: queer and feminist life in small towns and rural areas.
  • Leaving and staying: migration, exile, and diaspora, and how ties to community and home are kept or rebuilt.
  • Being trans in Morocco: the lives of trans, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming people in all their diversity: everyday life, bodies and transitions, family and chosen family, community, love, and joy.
  • Sexuality and the political: the many ways sexuality, real or attributed, enters political life and public discourse.

How to Apply

To apply, prepare a joint proposal of three to four pages, written by both members. The proposal should cover:

  • Theme and topic: the theme you chose, the specific topic you will work on, and your angle.
  • Working together: how the two of you will work side by side from start to finish.
  • Workplan: how you imagine the six months unfolding, up to the exhibition.
  • Exhibition vision: the format, materials, and atmosphere you imagine.
  • Ethics and safety: the considerations you already anticipate.

Alongside the proposal:

  • Artist member: a CV and a portfolio.
  • Research member: a CV and examples of prior research, published or unpublished.
  • Both members: two references who can speak to your work

Apply through the online form by Friday, 13 November 2026, 17:00 GMT. The form asks for basic details for each member and your files in Word or PDF format.

All applicants should hear from us by Friday, 18 December 2026.

If you have questions, you can email us at contact@taanit.com.

Confidentiality

  • Your details in the form are stored securely and seen only by the selection team.
  • You choose whether Tanit keeps your information for future opportunities or deletes it after the selection.

Disclaimer: A “duo” is a pair who apply together with one joint application: an artist and a researcher who work side by side throughout the fellowship. Individual applications are therefore not accepted; both members must apply together.
